COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

The CBE is accredited by the AACSB International for both its business and accounting programs. Less than five percent of schools are AACSB International accredited and less than one percent are accredited in both.

Towson University is the only University System of Maryland institution with an undergraduate degree in e-Business.

CBE offers Maryland’s first Master of Science in Supply Chain Management.

The CBE started offering courses for a M.S. in marketing intelligence. This program is an interdisciplinary effort between the College of Business and Economics and the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics.

CBE has hosted 11 seasons of its signature business case competition, “The Associate”. The competition is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to showcase their business acumen while learning invaluable lessons from successful business leaders.

CBE’s Panama program offers a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in management, which is one of the largest international programs at TU with nearly 200 students from Panama participating.

Towson University is home to the largest traditional undergraduate business school in Maryland.

THE JESS AND MILDRED FISHER COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS

Towson University and the Fisher College’s Department of Computer and Information Sciences features one of just 13 schools designated as National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Security and Assurance and in cyber operations by the National Security Agency.

The Fisher College has established state-of-the art interdisciplinary labs in materials science, nanotechnology, and biogeochemistry to conduct faculty/student research in environmental and high technology.

Towson University’s mathematics department is one of only 15 university in the United States to be designated as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries.

The Towson UTEACH program is based on a nationally recognized program to develop outstanding high school and science teachers.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

The College of Education is the oldest, largest and preeminent producer of teachers in the state of Maryland. Across the nation, thousands of educators trained at Towson University are now at the head of the class.

The college is nationally recognized for its network of more than 110 professional development schools. In their year-long Professional Development School experience, interns are immersed in real-world classrooms and guided by mentor teachers and university supervisors.

The COE’s Secondary and Middle School Education Department received the Outstanding Middle Level Teacher Education Program Award from the National Association of Professor of Middle Level Education.

The COE hosted TU Reading Clinic continues its outreach to families in the community by offering one-on-one tutoring with individualized programs of study. While children work with graduate students, parents attend workshops led by students from the advanced clinic course.

COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION

The Department of Dance offers a B.F.A. degree in dance performance accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance, with an optional teacher certificate program.

The Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies and the Society of Professional Journalists celebrate #TUjday, an annual celebration of journalism and new media. The celebration features keynote panels and master classes throughout the week with journalists from Pew Research, Webbmedia Group, CNN, The New York Times, Discovery Communications and many more.

The Department of Music in the Center for the Arts houses a state-of-the-art recording studio, performance venues, practice rooms, music labs, and ensemble rehearsal spaces.

As one of the largest theatre programs in Maryland, the Department of Theatre Arts offers a B.F.A. in Acting. Notable alumni include actors John Glover and Charles S. Dutton, comedian and actress Amy Schumer, and Brandon Broady. Students have won the prestigious Kennedy Center’s Regional Irene Ryan Acting Awards and competed for the national Irene Ryan Scholarship at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

The College of Fine Arts and Communications offers a one-of-a-kind Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts Infusion (MAIAI) graduate program designed for classroom teachers, arts specialists, teaching artists, administrators, and arts entrepreneurs.

COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS

The College of Liberal Arts became the first college in the university to successfully complete a tech transfer. A psychology professor and several students developed an innovative new closed captioning system and transferred the rights to BTS Software Solutions. The system is now known as Verb8tm.

Psychology Professor Bethany Brand is leading the largest and longest worldwide study on the treatment of dissociative disorders, the results of which have already won her national recognition. Dr. Brand teaches courses on trauma, involves students in her work, and is writing the first major book on the subject.

The Maryland Geographic Alliance will be housed at Towson University. Virginia Thompson, of Geography and Environmental Planning, and Todd Kenreich, director of M.Ed. programs in elementary and secondary education, will lead the alliance, which works to improve teaching, resources, and awareness about the world through geographic education.

COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS

The Institute for Well-Being is the only on-campus interprofessional training facility in the region where students from different majors work in teams in clinical programs that serve the Greater Baltimore community.

The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Program is one of only two state-supported programs and the only one to provide clinical training to both graduate students and select undergraduate students.

The College of Health Professions has the only entry-level program to prepare registered occupational therapists in the state of Maryland. The program is ranked 21st by US News & World Report.

The Department of Health Science is one of three programs in Maryland that is nationally recognized for school health, and is the largest producer of school health teachers in the state.
