TU takes safety seriously with a fully-sworn police force.

TU is proudly recognized as the safest campus in the University System of Maryland. In 2019, Towson University was also named one of the top 200 safest college campuses by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

The Towson University Police Department (TUPD) are fully-sworn officers dedicated to protecting the entire campus. All TUPD officers are Police Academy graduates with Maryland Police Training Commission certification, and each officer has full authority to enforce all state and local laws.
